The Life You Have Always Wanted in Your Retirement

Congratulations, it’s finally time to focus on your happiness! Now that you've left work or family behind, take some time to think about what you want to do with your newfound free time. Consider what your goals are for retirement and write them down. Spend some time thinking about how you want to spend the golden years of your life - things like clubs, activities, or side projects. Take these things into account when creating a plan that will really make you happy.

Maximize your leisure time with the No Plan Retirement Plan

Maybe you have a love/hate relationship with work and are looking for a new way to do things. Perhaps you've felt like you haven't had "time" to be yourself because your work schedule doesn't allow it. Your life could mean more time to enjoy the things you enjoy and that includes doing what you want when you want. This type of retirement plan could include going windsurfing or spending time near the beach each day. While this may not sound appealing, if it creates peace and harmony, then do it! You don't have to follow rules and regulations from working outside of your own rules and values - that is what retirement is all about if that's what you believe in.

Helping Others in Retirement

Retirement can be a time to give back to the community, whether it's at your local food bank or hospital. There are many ways to find volunteer opportunities, and many organizations need volunteers. Consider reaching out to a local food bank or hospital. There are many non-profit organizations that need volunteers for their mission, such as the Jaycees or Kiwanis club. Organize events with other retirees in senior communities and focus on promoting healthy living. You can also start a group or club of "seniors" who want to stay active in retirement.

Working a Part-Time Job

With both the labor shortage and retirement surge, some seniors have found themselves attempting to find new ways to make money while they're still feeling motivated. There are many local businesses that may benefit from your skills, so try this as a way to explore new careers and remain active in society. New developments in technology have made it easier to work remotely - you might consider serving as a consultant or 1099 employee if this is the best option for you. Otherwise, consider volunteering at local organizations where the role is temporary and offers opportunities to go on short-term missions or do more specific tasks.

Active Lifestyle & Sports

For seniors who want to remain active, it's important to do your research and find a community that provides plenty of amenities. For example, Golf World or the Villages offer golf courses with unlimited golf for those who want that type of activity. If golf is not your thing, consider tennis or pickleball which is a fast-growing sport for all ages. For the slightly less strenuous, consider bocce or Wii Sports as a way to stay active without overexertion. Ping pong is an excellent sport for seniors as it's one of the best activities for brain health. Watersports and exercise classes either within your community or at the local YMCA or a community center are another great way to get out there and stay active.

Social Activities and Lifelong Learning

With so many clubs in the community, there are lots of ways to meet others and keep in touch. There may be a club you want to join or you can even create your own group to get other people involved. There's something for everyone: Interests like crafting, travel, cooking, chess, cars, and shopping are just a few of the many options. If you're more about learning and taking classes for fun rather than becoming an expert in a subject, consider visiting your local community college or university. Many colleges offer free courses for seniors. This can afford you a great opportunity to learn more about the subject that interests you or perfect your writing skills before traveling. The options are many and varied, stimulating both the mind and social life of those involved.

Starting a Business

Some seniors might have always dreamed of starting their own business, and this may just be the opportunity for them to try. If you're interested in looking into inspiration or a way to make money with your life's work, consider what your skills or hobbies are. Maybe a food that you love to cook or sell could be popular, and you might find some success at the local farmers' market. You might also provide services that elders require such as pet sitting or grocery shopping.

Whatever you decide to do in retirement is completely up to you! All of your hard work and dedication will pay off, meaning you no longer have to rush. Your time is finally yours, so take the time to explore things that may have never been on your bucket list before.
